Montreal, QC, Canada - November 8-10, 2005
| |
| Meeting
Logistics |
The 2005 Fall General Meeting and
most all related research discussions and presentations for
it will be held in the Hotel Delta Centre-Ville in downtown
Montreal. Count on two full days of presentations, discussions,
roundtables and, for the first time, cross-industrial working
sessions with the Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group, a global
ISP/Telco group studying solutions to a number of messaging
abuses. APWG's own plenary sessions start on the morning of
Tuesday, November 8. (The draft agenda - below - will be developing
quickly over the next few weeks, so check it often and contact
us with agenda ideas you think may be missing.) Sequence of
presentations are subject to change. Times of presentations
to be posted in the weeks before the event. Registration and
Agenda links are below.
The APWG will hold plenary sessions in all day on Tuesday November
8 and all morning on Wednesday November 9. In the evening of
November 8th and the afternoon November 9, however, the APWG
will convene joint working sessions with the committees of the
Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group (MAAWG), a global coalition
of telecommunications companies and ISPs to discuss crucial,
and common, issues shared by the APWG and MAAWG for industry
1) Best Practices, 2) Industrial and Consumer Education,
3) eCrime Incident Abuse Reporting and the development
of an industrial 4) Directory of Abuse Contact Persons.
Though APWG planned program content runs only Tuesday and Wednesday,
APWG members, executives and visiting research fellows will
be contributing to MAAWG presentations on Thursday morning and
those sessions will be open to APWG members.
Historically, the APWG has convened its plenary sessions and
its own sub-committees to investigate counter-phishing issues
that bisect or cover these topical spaces. MAAWG board of directors
and the APWG's steering committee and executives have moved
to combine our groups' sub-committee work with MAAWG's working
committees covering phishing issues. This industrial counter-phishing
super-summit of telecommunications providers, technology vendors,
financial services firms and law enforcement agencies is an
important opportunity to coordinate efforts and harmonize the
development of common resources such as a reporting format for
ecrime incidents that could be marshaled by the entire counter-phishing
stakeholding community from brand-holders to law enforcement
agencies.
The APWG is pleased to see a united front emerging within the
counter-phishing stakeholding community - and honored to take
a place in it. As a milestone event for the counter-phishing
community, the APWG encourages its members to attend, lend their
wisdom and experience and join in the most expansive counter-phishing
conference yet convened, with APWG members from every corner
of the globe and from every stakeholding constituency.
NOTE: APWG organizers will vet all registrants that sign
up for the conference. Interlopers will not be accomodated.
Just join if you haven't already. The APWG is famously welcoming.
Check out membership rules and benefits at: http://www.antiphishing.org/membership.html
Membership is open to qualified financial institutions, corporations,
law enforcement agencies, public policy groups, solution vendors
and, by invitation, visiting scholars. Sponsoring members -
individual members and above - are eligible to attend conferences.

Opportunities for the General Meeting and SuperSummit |
APWG is offering an opportunity to build relationships while marketing your company to a targeted audience of communications service, technology companies, security companies, regulatory and law enforcement officials and financial institutions during its Fall 2005 General Meeting and Industrial Counter-Phishing SuperSummit in Montreal this November.
Sponsorships are a personal, non-intrusive way of conveying your message. Additionally, your participation can help support activities vital to the overall success of the APWG and its research partners, which ultimately contributes to the success of the entire counter-phishing stakeholders' community.
The following benefits are available to Meeting Sponsors, once your sponsorship is confirmed:
Recognition in on-site signage displayed during the meal or break
Distribution of one giveaway such as a literature pack
There are a number of meal or break sponsorship opportunities available for APWG members who want to use the meetings as an opportunity to communicate their brand and message to members of the APWG and of the MAAWG and their distinguished guests and presenters, each either a critical decision maker or a thought leader in his or her own right.

| About the
Anti-Phishing Working Group |
The Anti-Phishing Working Group
(APWG) is focused on giving
industry stakeholders a
confidential forum to discuss
phishing issues, define the scope
of the phishing problem in terms
of hard and soft costs, and share
information and best practices
for eliminating the problem.
Where appropriate, the APWG will
also look to share this
information with law enforcement.
Membership is open to qualified
financial institutions,
e-commerce companies, the law
enforcement community, and
industry. Because phishing
attacks and email fraud are
sensitive subjects for many
organizations that do business
online, the APWG has a policy of
maintaining the confidentiality
of member organizations. The Web
site of the Anti-Phishing Working
Group is www.antiphishing.org. It serves
as a public and industry resource
for information about the problem
of phishing and email fraud,
including identification and
promotion of pragmatic technical
solutions that can provide
immediate protection and benefits
against phishing attacks.
The
APWG was founded by Tumbleweed
Communications and a number of
member banks, financial services
institutions, and e-commerce
providers. It held its first
meeting in November 2003 in San
Francisco. The APWG, an
organization of more than 1900
members and more than 1200 member companies,
police and government agencies
worldwide was officially
established as an independent
organization in June 2004,
controlled by its executives and
board of directors and an
advisory steering committee.
